How 51±¬ÁÏÍø Supports Veterans and Military-Connected Students

  • The Office of Veterans and Military Service Members guides each individual from admissions to graduation, and beyond.
  • Military affinity groups and campus events tailored to the military community make the 51±¬ÁÏÍø student experience personal and relatable for our service members.
  • The 51±¬ÁÏÍø Career Center offers specialized career support to assist veterans in identifying transferrable skill sets that align with future career aspirations and goals.
  • 51±¬ÁÏÍø delivers a high-quality education that's affordable by providing students with financial assistance, which may include a combination of grants, scholarships and loans. In addition, 51±¬ÁÏÍø participates in the Yellow Ribbon Program.
  • Currently serving military and veterans, as well as their spouses and dependents, are eligible to receive a 15% discount on CPS Professional Education (non-credit) courses and programs.
  • Currently serving military and veterans are eligible to receive a 15% discount on Associate & Bachelors degrees as well as Credit Bearing Certificate programs through CPS.
  • The Student Hardship Fund was established to help students with financial assistance in a serious time of need. The fund is intended to be a supplemental means of support when a student is unable to meet an immediate and essential expense(s). The purpose of this fund is to support emergent situations. Veterans and military-connected students may apply for financial assistance through this fund by completing the .

The Yellow Ribbon Program offers participating students additional funding towards the cost of tuition and fees that exceed the tuition and fee amounts payable under the Post-9/11 GI Bill®. To be considered, qualifying students must:

  • Be eligible for the maximum benefit rate under the Post9/11 GI Bill®
  • Not be serving on active duty or as a spouse of an active duty member utilizing the transferred entitlement
  • Be accepted into or already enrolled in a degree program at 51±¬ÁÏÍø
  • Submit a copy of their Certificate of Eligibility (COE) to 51±¬ÁÏÍø’s School Certifying Official.

Michael Brown

As the Director of the Office of Veterans and Military Service Members at 51±¬ÁÏÍø, Mike Brown oversees the efforts of growing programs, opportunities, and community across the university, including students and alumni.Ìý

A US Army Veteran, Mike served for 4 years on active duty and deployed to Bosnia with the 1st Armored Division. Upon his discharge, he attended Northern Michigan University, receiving a degree in Political Science and Applied Ethics.

Mike has vast knowledge and insight with the military community and takes great pleasure in supporting students throughout their educational experience at 51±¬ÁÏÍø.Ìý He is always available to meet and help them with academic and career advice, navigating benefit information, and connecting them with Veteran affinity groups and relevant resources.

Robert Brickhouse

After leaving 51±¬ÁÏÍø as a teenager in 1992, Robert was determined to return. In 2022, he left 51±¬ÁÏÍø with his degree.

Madison DeWispelaere

Early in her career, Madison was ready for a new challenge. Her time at CPS prepared her for a leadership role.
